Often times, the best place to mount a TV in the family room is above a fireplace. This does however come with it’s own set of challenges. When mounting your TV above the fireplace, here are a few things to consider:
What type of wall is above the fireplace? Is it studded, concrete, or brick? The wall type will impact the type of mount your ultimately decide to buy.
Double check the distance between your TV and the components you are hooking up to it. You want to be sure that you have cables that are the appropriate length. You don’t want to be in the middle of the installation and then realize that you don’t have the right cables.
Be sure to consider your viewing angle. Generally, when the TV is mounted above a fireplace, it’s higher than eye level. You may want to consider a mounting option that allows you to tilt it down to get the best viewing angle from your couch.
