Recent Tragedies Highlight the Importance of Securing Flat-Panel TVs
According to this troubling story in yesterday’s Chicago Tribune, two Chicago-area toddlers have been killed in the past three weeks when TVs have fallen off of furniture and crashed down on them. The article examines these recent deaths and also reveals telling statistics from a recent report from the Consumer Product Safety Commission on furniture related accidents.

- From 2008-2010, injuries related to instability of television, furniture, appliances averaged 43,400 per year, 58% which involved children under the age of 18.
- 19,200 (44%) of accidents involved televisions (or TV and furniture) falling.
- In the past decade, 293 of these accidents resulted in deaths, of which 245 (or 84%) involved children under the age of 8.
